Sounds like common sense – a hospital that delivers newborns is baby-friendly. But it’s an official designation from the World Health Organization and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). In South Florida, Jackson is the first health system to meet the Baby-Friendly standards, which empower mothers to give their babies the best possible start through education about the benefits of breastfeeding.
In addition, shortly after birth, babies are placed skin-to-skin on their mother’s chest. This allows for the most intimate contact. During this “magic hour,” babies are most alert and can immediately bond with their mom. With family-centered care, new moms and babies stay together in the same room from the moment of birth.
One thing that’s not part of your maternity experience at Jackson? Promotional items from baby formula companies and complimentary pacifiers. This policy is part of Jackson’s commitment to supporting breastfeeding. We also offer:
Join other expectant parents in our breastfeeding classes to learn all of its benefits. How to help your baby “latch on”, how to hold your baby while you nurse, and how to overcome common obstacles are among the strategies you’ll learn. Plus, we share tips on pumping, returning to work, and weaning.
