The new year kicked off with Jackson North Medical Center celebrating the dedication of its surgical center in honor of its former chief administrative officer, Sandy A. Sears. Sears had a distinguished career for 39 years at Jackson Health System, and retired in 2014 after leading Jackson North for more than seven years.
Sears has long been considered a role model for community service, making it an easy choice for the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners to approve Resolution R-646-14 and ultimately rename a signature portion of the hospital in her honor.
The ceremony, attended by Jackson Health System executives, former colleagues, and community leaders, included details about upcoming plans for Jackson North, as well as congratulations and praise for Sears, who was presented with a special plaque. Darryl K. Sharpton, chairman of the Public Health Trust Board of Trustees, was also in attendance, commending Sears for her continued dedication to patient care, customer service, and the community.
The dedication recognized Sears’ immeasurable contributions as a leader in health care, public service, and civic leadership. The plaque unveiled at the ceremony will eventually be relocated to Jackson North’s new surgical center, one of the signature projects in Jackson’s capital plan.
