Jackson South Community Hospital serves our community in several important ways. It is an integral member of the community, making its resources available to meet the health education and information needs of Southern Dade County.

Pet Therapy

Virginia Marx is providing pet therapy services to the patients and families of Jackson South. Mrs. Marx, Libby, Tubby, and Rocky will be here Mondays from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. This program will bring smiles and cheer to our patients.

Animals can be a source of comfort for humans, as well as a focus of attention. Pet therapy reduces stress induced symptoms and encourages social interaction. When a person pets a dog it releases endorphins and encourages patients to stretch, turn and use their hands.

Pet therapy is a welcomed distraction from anxiety and loneliness patients may experience and can sometimes bring back pleasant memories of pets owned in the past. JSCH welcomes Mrs. Marx and her loving pets, who just like all volunteers, wear JSCH identification and have passed their background checks.

The Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) Fellowship

Jackson South is home to The Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) Fellowship program for surgeons who have already completed their residency training and want to specialize in more advanced, minimally invasive surgical techniques. The program is one of the longest standing minimally invasive surgery fellowships in the world as well as one of the most competitive. Each year, nearly 100 surgeons apply for only two positions.
