Holtz Children's Hospital

Holtz Children's Hospital provides specialized critical care services for children ranging from newborns to 21 years of age.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Holtz Children's Hospital is home to one of the nation's largest neonatal intensive care units, producing some of the best medical outcomes in the United States. The Project: New Born Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is a designated Regional Perinatal Intensive Care Center by the state of Florida and boasts some of the best survival rates and successful outcomes in the country. The NICU is staffed 24 hours a day by an experienced medical team — including neonatologists, neonatal nurses, respiratory therapists and pharmacists — specially trained in caring for such small and sick children. This team works with physicians and pediatric surgeons in other specialty areas, as well as with parents and families, to ensure each child receives the best care possible.

Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

At Holtz Children’s Hospital, the Carnival Cares for Kids Center pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) offers these specialized services for children ranging from newborns to 21 years of age who suffer from a variety of diseases and traumatic injuries. PICU patients are treated by a medical team comprised of pediatric physicians world renowned for their medical expertise, nurse practitioners, ICU nurses, pediatric pharmacists and pediatric respiratory therapists, who all work together to make sure each child gets the best care possible. The PICU also includes pediatric cardiac intensive care for children suffering from a number of heart conditions or who are recuperating from heart surgery.

Cardiac Intensive Care Unit

The Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) is a special unit located at Holtz Children's Hospital. In the CICU care is given to infants, children and young adults undergoing treatment for a variety of heart conditions. Located adjacent to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, the CICU is staffed by a medical team trained in providing intensive care and cardiac specialty services.

Jackson South Community Hospital

Jackson South’s 12-bed intensive care unit is staffed by three intensivists, which are physicians specially certified in intensive care. All post-surgical patients spend time in the ICU as well as medical patients who require special support or treatment.

Jackson North Medical Center

Medical-Surgical Intensive Care

This 24-bed unit cares for adult patients who require critical care (cardiac, surgical, medical) treatments, including but not limited to, ventilator support and medication drips.

Neonatal Intensive Care

Should the need arise, Jackson North is equipped with a 10-bed, Level 2 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) that offers specialized care for premature babies or newborns in need of additional care. Guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics delineate three levels of newborn intensive care units. Level 2 provides specialty care for infants born at 32 weeks’ gestation and weighing 1,500 grams who are not fully developed. Doctors with special training in treating newborns (neonatologists) are available 24 hours a day and can deliver immediate care to your infant if necessary.

Jackson Memorial Hospital

Jackson Memorial Hospital provides intensive care to critically ill patients.

Neuro-Intensive Care

State-of-the-art neurocritical care is provided within the 24-bed Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Our neurosurgical and neurological physicians and staff are experts in caring for critically ill patients. Brain tissue monitoring, induced hypothermia, and sedation and pain management are common procedures in caring for these very sick patients.

Our Neuroscience Intensive Care unit is the largest of its kind in the state of Florida and is actively involved in ongoing, prospective research projects in the areas of traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and neurovascular disease. The multinational and multi-lingual nursing staff is considered among the best in the United States. The neurocritical care program is also served by a full-time clinical pharmacologist, nutritionist, respiratory therapist, and social service representative. All modalities of critical care medicine are available and in common usage within the Neuroscience Critical Care Unit.
