We were honored to receive silver and bronze transplant awards from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Division of Transplantation in October. Transplant programs were honored for post-transplant survival rates, transplant rates, and mortality rates after being placed on the waitlist. Silver medals were awarded for our kidney, kidney pancreas and lung transplant programs and our heart transplant program received a bronze medal.  MTI was the only program in the nation to be honored with three silver medals and our kidney transplant program was one of only nine programs in the United States to receive a silver medal.

The Donation and Transplantation Community of Practice recognizes high performing transplant programs at the National Learning Congress every two years.  The award process was developed by the Donation and Transplantation Community of Practice’s Transplant Center Task Force with assistance from OPTN and SRTR data experts.  The Medal of Honor ceremony was held on October 4, 2012, in conjunction with the National Learning Congress in Grapevine, Texas.

In 2010, our kidney, liver and pancreas transplant programs were the recipients of silver and bronze awards respectively. Our kidney program is listed in the top 1.4% in the nation and the liver and pancreas programs are listed in the top 20% in the nation.

MTI’s heart transplant program received the 2011 Healthgrades Heart Transplant Excellence Award for the best outcomes in heart transplantation.
