Time in hospital:
- Discharge teaching will begin from time of admission for transplant and have support system available
- Discharge when medically stable, even if you may not feel ready, usually in 6-7 days after surgery
Will your new liver work right away?
Most livers work immediately. Sometimes there is a delay and the liver takes several days to start working. During this time you will remain in the ICU and be observed very closely. You may need to receive clotting factors until the liver starts to work properly.
