In addition to building new facilities throughout Miami-Dade County, Jackson is committed to modernizing and renovating almost all of its existing patient facilities.
The centerpiece of Jackson Health System is Jackson Memorial Hospital, an academic medical center that is also one of the nation’s busiest public hospitals. Home to Ryder Trauma Center and the Miami Transplant Institute, Jackson Memorial provides world-class medical care in nearly every medical specialty.
As part of the Jackson Miracle-Building Bond Program, we are modernizing Jackson Memorial’s patient areas to provide patients with a safe and comfortable environment during their time of need. Floor renovations include upgrades to infrastructure, furniture, and technology. Several floors have already been modernized; next on the list at Jackson Memorial is West Wing 5 and West Wing 7, as well as South Wing floors 5, 6, 7, and 8. The renovated units will feature several upgrades including new floors, ceilings, bathrooms, furniture, and hotel-style amenities like safes and new, 32-inch flat-screen televisions. Family members staying overnight can enjoy comfortable convertible sofas, open-plan nursing stations, and Wi-Fi.
Holtz Children’s Hospital and The Women’s Hospital at Jackson Memorial are also undergoing modernization projects on several units, including 4A, 4B, 6A, and 7A – areas designated for expectant mothers and pediatric patients.
The total cost of the modernizations at the Jackson Memorial campus is $123 million. Work has already begun in some of these areas.
As part of Jackson’s Mentor/Protégé Development Program, which allows small business construction companies to have an opportunity to shadow well-establish construction-management firms by working directly alongside them, Skanska USA Building, Inc., is leading construction on this project, with SAGOMA Construction Services, Inc., working as the protégé.
