Welcome to the Jackson Health System/University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Emergency Medicine Residency Program.  Founded in 2016 our ACGME-approved residency is a 3-year program that offers a comprehensive patient-centered model designed to train compassionate and expert Emergency Medicine leaders.  Our curriculum was developed to incorporate multiple modalities of learning; simulation, small group sessions, review and lectures to develop outstanding future clinicians and scholars.  Rotation locations include Jackson Memorial Hospital, University of Miami Hospital, Miami VA Hospital and Holy Cross Hospital in neighboring Broward County.  Rotations at these different hospitals provide our residents experience in private, academic and county hospitals, and prepares them for either academic or private careers in emergency medicine.

Established in the heart of Miami in 1918, Jackson Memorial Hospital is the largest public hospital in the nation.  Our emergency department sees an average of 110,000 adults and pediatric visits per year and is home to the Ryder Trauma Center serving the 2.6 million inhabitants of Miami-Dade County and beyond.  As the county’s safety net hospital, we see a broad spectrum of conditions and diseases and proudly make a difference in the lives of our patient population daily.  Our entire EM faculty has decades of experience educating students, interns and residents and is dedicated to teaching, promoting and advancing emergency medicine.

Program leadership includes Chief of Emergency Medicine Girish Bobby Kapur MD, MPH, a renowned International EM expert, Residency Director Christopher Freeman, MD, FACEP, Associate Program Director, Mark Supino, MD and Emergency Ultrasound Director, Leila Posaw, MD, MPH, FACEP.

We are confident that our unique residency program is what you are looking for.  Our experienced friendly staff will make you feel right at home; your exposure to medicine will be like no other; and the result will be an education and work readiness beyond compare.  Not to mention the exciting and invigorating lifestyle Miami has to offer!  Join the Jackson Health System Emergency Medicine Residency Program:  where national expertise meets excellence in global health training.

We have developed our curriculum to incorporate multiple modalities of instruction to meet the needs of current adult learners.  Our residents have access to both the University of Miami’s world renowned simulation Gordon Center, as well as Jackson Memorial Hospital Center for Patient Safety.  During our sessions at the Gordon Center we incorporate case-based simulation with procedural simulation for an enhanced educational experience.  We also have small group sessions where our learners along with EM faculty work on the application of medical knowledge and critical decision making.  This is mixed with didactic lectures where we focus on broader concepts, pathophysiology and best practice guidelines.

Our goal is to prepare excellent EM physicians that can practice anywhere, be it academic, community, county, urban, rural, private or any combination thereof, and not only thrive but excel and become leaders in the rapidly evolving field of emergency medicine.
