Echocardiography, a non-invasive procedure that provides unparalleled views of the heart, plays a vital role in the care of patients at the Children’s Heart Center. Echocardiograms enable cardiologists to see abnormalities in the heart such as:
- Atrial or ventricular septal defect “holes in the heart”
- Blocked heart valves
- Heart function abnormalities
The imaging specialist at the Children’s Heart Center are among the most experienced in south Florida, performing over 5,000 echocardiograms each year. In addition, CHC Echocardiologists are faculty members of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and are able to perform all types of echocardiography, including:
- Cutting-edge three dimensional studies of the heart
- Transesophageal studies
- Stress echocardiograms
- Intravascular (ICE) studies
The ICAEL certified echocardiography laboratory is child and family friendly. The rooms are designed to allow privacy and are equipped with TVs and DVD players to make the experience pleasant for our younger patients.
Expertise is also available for advanced cardiac MRI and CT imaging when additional information is needed for optimal care of your child.
