As a full service transplantation center, we offer every type of adult organ transplant, which includes heart, lung, heart-lung, kidney, pancreas, kidney-pancreas, liver, intestinal and multivisceral transplants.
The Miami Transplant Institute performs 250 to 300 kidney transplants every year – more than any other program in Florida – and consistently ranks within the top three centers nationally for volume.
MTI is one of the only kidney-pancreas transplant programs across the country with 10-year survival data. More so, our program has performed more of these complex kidney-pancreas surgeries than most centers in the nation.
The Miami Transplant Institute performs 120 to 140 liver transplants every year, making it one of the most prolific liver transplant programs in the world.
Only a few transplant centers in the U.S. perform intestinal and multivisceral transplants, and the Miami Transplant Institute is the only one in the state of Florida. More so, out of the approximately 100 complex surgeries conducted annually in the U.S., MTI performs 15 to 20 of these rare procedures. (Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients, Actual Results from 7/1/2013-6/30/14. Intestine.)
MTI performs 30 to 40 heart transplants and VAD procedures annually for adult and pediatric patients, and to date, we’ve performed more than 1,000 total.
The Miami Transplant Institute (MTI) is considered one of the leading transplant centers in the world with a major role in Lung transplant and Heart-Lung transplant. MTI is a collaborative endeavor between Jackson Memorial Hospital and University of Miami Health System/Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine. The Miami Transplant Institute has completed over 100 lung and heart-lung transplants, with competitive transplant rates and waiting times for our candidates. (Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients, lung and heart-lung. Program data collected from 07/01/2012 to 06/30/2013 and 07/01/2007 to 12/31/2012.)
The Miami Transplant Institute (MTI) is home to a Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Program, which provides critical heart and lung support to our pediatric and adult patient population. Our multidisciplinary ECMO team has the ability to place patients on ECMO in other states and countries and then transfer them to our facility for further medical management.
