Overview

In medicine, frequency matters. In fact, high numbers of transplants performed by a specific center are linked to increased survival rates compared to low-volume centers. The Miami Transplant Institute performs 250 to 300 kidney transplants every year – more than any other program in Florida – and consistently ranks within the top three centers nationally for volume.

In 2010 and 2012, the Department of Health and Human Services recognized our kidney program for ranking within the top five percent or higher amongst all transplant centers.

Additionally, more than one-third of our kidney transplants come from living donors, including participants in our Paired Kidney Exchange Program, the only initiative of its kind in the region that connects donors when loved ones are not a match.
