Dr. George W. Burke is a distinguished physician and surgeon at the Miami Transplant Institute (MTI), a unique affiliation between Jackson Health System and UHealth – University of Miami Health System. Dr. Burke is the chief of pancreas transplant and has published over 625 chapters, articles, and abstracts. His focus has been on the utility of serum cytokine levels in tolerance, the recurrence of FSGS after kidney transplantation, and the recurrence of autoimmunity after pancreas transplantation. He has been PI or co-PI on two NIH RO1 grants and has also served as primary investigator in 23 studies and participated in over 16 NIH Special Emphasis Panels over the past decade.
Prior to joining MTI in 1987, Dr. Burke earned his medical degree from the University of Massachusetts. He completed his surgical residency at the New England Deaconess Hospital and his transplant fellowship at the University of Minnesota.
