Actress Halle Berry Advocates for Menopause Care: How to Best Manage Symptoms
By: Dr. Marina Seminatore
Halle Berry recently launched her women’s health company, Respin, which focuses on menopause care that uses a holistic approach and AI to support women through menopause.
The average woman hits menopause at 51, but anything between 48 and 53 is considered normal. Symptoms include irregular periods, hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, memory lapses, difficulty concentrating, skin changes, weight gain, bone loss, decreased libido, mood changes and irritability, and trouble sleeping.
Some tips to navigating menopause and easing symptoms include:
- Exercising regularly
- Avoiding alcohol and caffeine
- Eating foods rich in calcium and Vitamin D
- Eating less processed foods and sugars
- Staying hydrated
Through her new program, Berry recommends quick workouts to ease women going through the transition phase. These exercises are no-sweat and don’t require a change in daily routine.
Some examples include:
- Door frame push-ups: Before leaving a room, do a few push-ups against the door frame.
- Laundry lunges: As you’re doing laundry, do a few lunges as you move between loads.
- Teeth brushing balancing act: Practice standing on one foot while brushing your teeth. Switch feet halfway through for balance training.
While menopause comes with its challenges, it’s a wonderful opportunity to ramp up self-care and embrace this new chapter in life. If you think you’re experiencing menopause, talk to your doctor.
