Jackson South Urologist Is the First in the World to Study the Use of Human Amniotic Membrane to Cure Erectile Dysfunction

Patients Joseph McNichol and William Sergio and Sanjay Razdan, M.D., MCh., director of the Jackson South Community Hospital Urology Center of Excellence.

Retired Police Officer Joseph McNichol started getting the Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) tests annually at age 40. This year, his results showed a quick jump in his PSA scoring. Sanjay Razdan, M.D., MCh., director of the Jackson South Community Hospital Urology Center of Excellence, did a biopsy of his prostate on June 7th and the diagnosis was prostate cancer.

Fortunately, Jackson South director Dr. Sanjay Razdan is the first in the world to have perfected the technique for delivery and placement of AmnioFixTM human amniotic membrane during a robotic prostatectomy. This new technique is used to enhance the healing of the nerve bundle to achieve the “trifecta” for prostate cancer patients – curing the cancer, improving continence and restoring sexual potency.

McNichol was one of ten patients to benefit from this new treatment for prostate cancer. Nine days after receiving the human amniotic membrane during a robotic prostatectomy, he has already had phenomenal recuperation.

“The Urology Center of Excellence at Jackson South has one of the largest single surgeon series in the world studying the effectiveness of human amniotic membrane to enhance the healing process after robotic prostatectomy.  This is also the busiest robotic Urology program in South Florida.” said Dr. Razdan, “On a trial basis, I have started delivering human amniotic membrane to the ‘neurovascular bundle’ to promote nerve regeneration and reduce inflammation and scar tissue formation after robotic prostate surgery.”

According to MiMedx, the company that makes the membrane, Dr. Razdan is the first in the world to study the use of human amniotic membrane to enhance the healing process for prostate cancer patients.

Today, Joseph McNichol, a retired police officer, 53; and William Sergio, a TV Producer, 64, will be sharing their stories of recovery.
