Jackson Memorial Foundation received a $165,000 grant from Health Foundation of South Florida, on behalf of the Taylor Breast Health Center/Roberta Orlen Chaplin Digital Breast Imaging Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. The grant, through Project I.S.I.S. (Improved Services – Improved Success), provided  partial funding of the project to reinvent Jackson’s mobile mammography program by replacing the health system’s outdated van with a new, modernized digital unit.

This equipment will increase the capacity to serve patients by approximately 25 percent, improve quality of care and decrease delays in diagnosis by lowering call back rates (a negative side effect of using analog technology in the mobile environment). Ultimately, it will improve early detection of breast cancer by improving treatment outcomes.

Media and the public will have three opportunities to tour Jackson’s Mobile Digital Mammogram Unit on October 2 and learn more about the health system’s efforts to fight breast cancer. A ribbon cutting for the new mammogram unit will be held at 1 p.m. at the Stephen P. Clark Government Center, where Jackson officials will join Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez, Commission Chairman Joe Martinez, along with other commissioners, in kicking off the county’s efforts in raising awareness of breast cancer.
