JACKSON REHABILITATION HOSPITAL SPINAL CORD INJURY PATIENTS AT PICNIC

Paraplegic Aaron Willis will handcycle, help prepare lunch and swim in the ocean

In December, 15-year-old Aaron Willis was bike riding in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood when someone in a car shot him in the back. Aaron, a former football player at Booker T. Washington High, was left paralyzed. After several weeks at Holtz Children’s Hospital at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center, Aaron began therapy at Jackson Rehabilitation Hospital.

As part of his recreation therapy, Aaron will join other patients with spinal cord injuries – from car and bicycle crashes, and gun violence – for an outing at Crandon Park. Joined by their families, the patients will cook a barbecue lunch, handcycle on a bike path at the park and swim in the ocean.
