PEDIATRIC HEMATOLOGY/ONCOLOGY PATIENTS TO CUT AND SHAVE DOCTOR’S HAIR FOR LOCKS OF LOVE

Hair will be donated to organization that makes wigs for children with hair loss caused by an illness

Who:

Dr. J. Grey Faulkenberry, an internal medicine resident at Holtz Children’s Hospital; Jessica Chee, UM/Jackson internal medicine-pediatrics program coordinator; Holtz patients

What:

J. Grey Faulkenberry, M.D., a resident at Holtz Children’s Hospital at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center, has been growing his hair long for more than three years – with a purpose. On Thursday, he will allow a few pediatric patients in Holtz’s oncology and hematology unit to cut his long, curly locks and then shave his head. More than 12 inches of his hair will be cut and then donated to Locks of Love, an organization that helps children who have lost their hair because of an illness, such as cancer. In 2007, he also donated his hair.

Dr. Faulkenberry will be joined by Jessica Chee, UM/Jackson internal medicine-pediatrics program coordinator, who will allow pediatric patients to cut her waist-length hair. She, too, has donated her hair to Locks of Love in the past.
