What:
|
Jahwann McIntyre was with the Martin County Fire Department for only a year when a fireman’s worst nightmare became a reality. The 22 year old firefighter was injured and burned over 50 percent of his body. It happened while his team battled an early morning house fire, just two days after Christmas 2012. He was immediately airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center’s Burn Unit for treatment. Now, five months later, having endured eight surgeries and countless hours of rehabilitation, the young firefighter, who celebrated his 23rd birthday in the burn unit, finally gets to go home. “It’s the best mother’s day gift I could ever receive,” says Doris McIntyre, Jahwann’s elated mother. “The medical staff at Jackson and Ryder Trauma Center has done an incredible job treating my son.” She and her husband Albert have practically lived in their son’s hospital room during the past five months, to provide support.
