Darryl K. Sharpton, chairman, Public Health Trust Board of Trustees

What:

Jackson Health System is growing its partnership with the Florida International University (FIU) Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM) by launching a hospitalist program at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

The program will place a group of FIU doctors who, as hospitalists, will do rotations at Jackson Memorial and assume the care of hospitalized patients in the place of their primary care physicians. HWCOM fourth-year students will also be doing clinical rotations at Jackson Memorial as part of the new hospitalist program.

“Jackson has a long-standing reputation as a premiere academic medical center and our evolving partnership with FIU will only make us stronger,” said Carlos A. Migoya, president and CEO of Jackson Health System.

“This new hospitalist program offers a very exciting synergy that allows us to enhance our students’ educational experience while helping to improve the quality of care available to our community,” said John A. Rock, M.D., founding dean and senior vice president for health affairs, FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine.

Join leaders from Jackson and FIU as we celebrate this enhancement of our partnership.
