RYDER TRAUMA CENTER VETERANS DAY SALUTE
TO ARMY FORWARD SURGICAL TEAMS

Who:

Lt. Col. Jason Seery, director of the Army Trauma Training Center at Ryder Trauma Center; 909th Army Forward Surgical Team

What:

For more than 10 years, Ryder Trauma Center has served as the U.S. Department of Defense’s only surgical training facility for the U.S. Army’s forward surgical teams before they deploy to war zones. In honor of Veterans Day, Ryder Trauma Center at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center is saluting the men and women who serve in the military and many of whom go into harm’s way to fight for freedom around the world.

The 909th Army Forward Surgical Team from Fort Sheridan, Ill., is currently training at Ryder Trauma Center. The three-phase program provides them with the training required to care for those injured on the battlefield. The program includes didactics (lectures), trauma skills labs, simulations, clinical rotations at the trauma center and providing care for every patient in trauma resuscitation for 48 hours. Once their training is completed, the 22-member surgical team is scheduled to deploy to a destination overseas.

As part of the Veterans Day observance, the 909th Army Forward Surgical Team will perform a mock trauma from the helipad to resuscitation and will be available for media interviews.
