FIRST TIME MOM WITH BREAST CANCER CREDITS
JACKSON MEMORIAL HOSPITAL’S BREAST CENTER WITH SAVING HER LIFE

Three months after having her first child, Rosa Arias Yapur, 34, noticed blood streaming from one of her nipples. She then discovered a lump on her left breast and had a feeling something was terribly wrong.

Yapur, who had no health insurance, came to Jackson Memorial Hospital for help. Doctors at the Roberta Orlen Chaplin Digital Breast Imaging Center at the Taylor Breast Health Center diagnosed her with stage three breast cancer. They performed a mastectomy, removing her left breast. She also underwent successful chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Since being diagnosed and treated in 2012, Yapur has had no signs of recurrence.

“I am so grateful to Jackson Memorial Hospital for admitting me as a patient,” Yapur said. “They saved my life.”

Yapur will share her story during Breast Cancer Awareness Month at the grand opening and ribbon cutting of Jackson Memorial Hospital’s newly renovated Roberta Orlen Chaplin Digital Breast Imaging Center at the Taylor Breast Health Center.

Jackson Memorial’s breast center is one of South Florida’s most trusted institutions for detection, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. The newly renovated facility is totally digital, providing physicians with easier and faster access to images. The facility has also been modernized with new technology and more comfortable features for patients.
