GRAND OPENING OF NEW MATERNITY SUITES IN THE WOMEN’S HOSPITAL AT JACKSON MEMORIAL HOSPITAL

Upgraded Rooms to House Moms and Newborns

Who:

Carlos A. Migoya, president and CEO of Jackson Health System; Darryl K. Sharpton, chairman of the Public Health Trust Board of Trustees; Steven Burghart, chief administrative officer of The Women’s Hospital at Jackson Memorial and Holtz Children’s Hospital; University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital obstetrician/gynecologists; members of the Public Health Trust; members of the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners; other local elected leaders; doctors, nurses and other medical staff from The Women’s Hospital at Jackson Memorial

What:

The Women’s Hospital at Jackson Memorial is hosting a grand opening celebration of the “Little Miracles Maternity Suites,” a renovated maternity unit with all new features, a spa-like atmosphere, leading-edge equipment, 20 private suites, and amenities for new mothers and families. The event will also celebrate the opening of five renovated obstetrics and gynecology operating rooms, and a unit of the world-renowned neonatal intensive care unit in Holtz Children’s Hospital at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center.

These three remodeled areas will officially open to patients on Wednesday, July 30.

The renovations cost $6 million, with the projects being funded by Jackson operating revenues and contributions from the Jackson Memorial Foundation.

The “Little Miracles Maternity Suites” will cater to post-partum mothers and their newborns. All suites include flat-screen televisions, hotel-style safes, pull-out couches for loved ones to sleep comfortably, and new, stylish bathrooms. A family education center, breast feeding rooms, a spouse and sibling lounge, and a discharge suite are among the additional amenities in the unit.

Mothers delivering babies via Cesarean-section at The Women’s Hospital at Jackson Memorial will now do so in new, state-of-the-art operating rooms. These surgical suites are outfitted with the newest, most advanced technology. Pioneer fetal surgeon Rubén Quintero, M.D., director of the Jackson Fetal Therapy Institute, will treat birth defects in utero using minimally invasive techniques in one of the new operating rooms. The operating rooms are connected to the world-class neonatal intensive care unit at Holtz Children’s, providing sick newborns with immediate care after delivery. An area in the neonatal intensive care unit was also remodeled as part of this project.

Over the last year, Jackson Health System has reinvested in its facilities by completing long overdue renovation projects, including the modernization of several patient floors at Jackson Memorial Hospital. All of these projects are being done with patient and family comfort as the goal.

During the grand opening celebration Tuesday night, tours will be offered of the remodeled areas.
