What:
|
Doctors and nurses from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Holtz Children’s Hospital are celebrating the lives of children born prematurely and reuniting with them at the annual NICU Family Party. Children of all ages who have gone on to live healthy lives – some just months old, others who are teenagers – will walk the red carpet in the Hollywood-themed event. They will be joined by the doctors and nurses who helped save them and care for them. Former patients, some of them born as early as 24 weeks gestation, and their parents will play games, have photos taken and share stories with other families whose lives were touched by the Holtz NICU staff.
Among the former patients returning for the event is Jose Migoya, son of Jackson Health System President and CEO Carlos A. Migoya. Jose, a Miami banker who celebrated his 36th birthday this week, was born at Jackson Memorial Hospital in 1978, weighing just over a pound. His life was saved in the NICU, where world-renowned University of Miami/Jackson neonatologists treat babies with life-threatening problems associated with extreme prematurity.
“Jackson makes miracles every day – and my son is one them,” Carlos Migoya said. “We have never forgotten the exceptional, lifesaving care he received in the NICU so many years ago, and we’re excited to celebrate its continued success with other survivors’ and their families.”
