Plans Unveiled To Include 100-Bed Hospital At Jackson West

One of the cornerstones of Jackson’s storied history is its longstanding commitment to serving the people of Miami-Dade County. We are building upon that rich legacy by expanding our services into areas closer to where people live and work.

Earlier this year, we announced plans to buy land in Doral and build a new campus there – called Jackson West – that would include a free-standing emergency room for adults and children, among other much-needed medical services. We have also determined there is also a sufficient need for an inpatient hospital as well.

We have recently filed a letter of intent with the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) to begin the required process for obtaining a certificate of need for a 100-bed hospital on the Jackson West site, located just west of the Palmetto Expressway and on the north side of Northwest 25th Street.

Petitioning the state for permission to open a new hospital is a lengthy and complex process, but we have no doubt that this effort is absolutely in the best interest of our patients and all Miami-Dade residents. Further expanding Jackson’s unmatched medical care into one of the county’s most medically underserved communities – where the closest hospital is miles away – is a no-brainer.

Jackson West will be custom-tailored to meet the unique communities growing in Doral, Miami Springs, Sweetwater, West Miami, and Virginia Gardens – just as our other facilities meet the needs of the communities they serve.

We are now in the process of preparing our full application, which is due to AHCA in October. Along with our own analysis that shows there is sufficient demand to meet both regulatory and financial requirements for a new hospital, input from a broad cross-section of healthcare consumers, physicians, employers, and area business owners is also a critical element in this process.

For so long, West Miami-Dade has been a healthcare desert, with little or no access to Jackson’s advanced class of medicine. We look forward to working with our new neighbors and making Jackson West their healthcare provider of choice.
