Jackson West to open in City of Doral
In March 2015, the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners unanimously supported Jackson Health System’s plan to purchase 27 acres in the City of Doral. The site will be the home of Jackson West, an outpatient campus for adult and pediatric patients. The plans were also approved by the Public Health Trust Board of Trustees, Jackson’s governing body, and the Jackson Bond Citizens’ Advisory Committee, which reviews all projects funded by the Jackson Miracle-Building Bond Program.
Jackson West will allow us to expand our world-class medical care into some of the county’s fastest-growing residential and commercial communities. Residents in these neighborhoods, including Doral, Westchester, Sweetwater, Hialeah and Miami Lakes – all of whom help fund Jackson’s mission – deserve access to our services closer to where they live, work, and play.
The parcel of land is located just west of the Palmetto Expressway and north of Northwest 25th Street. The site will become a state-of-the-art outpatient medical center with a free-standing emergency room for adult and pediatric patients, as well as a long-planned children’s ambulatory center for specialized pediatric care.
Jackson negotiated a price of $38.5 million, below the average appraised value. Jackson is allocating $15 million of that amount from surplus funds, a result of sound fiscal planning and leadership. The rest of the project, including construction and equipment, will be funded through the Jackson Miracle-Building Bond program.
Jackson West will provide high-quality health care to one of our most densely populated, but medically underserved, areas. The future of medicine is in outpatient care, with patients, doctors, and insurance companies all wanting this faster, more efficient, lower-cost option to become more widely available.
We also want Jackson West to be a leader in children’s services. The University of Miami’s expert pediatricians remain the most exclusive provider of children’s care for Jackson, and we are working with them closely as we expand into Doral.
