New Year’s Baby Born at Jackson South Medical Center

Weighing 8 pounds, 6 ounces, and measuring 20.5 inches, Jesús Juan-González was among the first babies born in South Florida in 2016. His parents, Dolores Gonzalez and Mario Juan of Homestead, welcomed him into the New Year and the world at 5:03 a.m. on January 1 at Jackson South Medical Center.

“I feel overjoyed with my baby,” Dolores said. “Thank God that everything turned out okay.”

This is the third child for the couple. The family of Guatemalan descent was anxiously hoping for a boy to complete their family.

Their oldest daughter, Lisbet, was especially excited.

“I am very happy because I now have a little brother,” Lisbet said with tears in her eyes.

“It is very significant to me that my child was born on the first day of the year,” Mario said. “It’s a gift that God sent me; I made a promise to God that I would name the child Jesús if my wife gave birth to a boy.”

Jesús’ birthday was unexpected since Dolores’ original due date was in mid-December. Gerald Pierre, MD, and a multidisciplinary team at Jackson South, delivered the baby. The family is grateful for the excellent care they received.

The family is now home embracing the presence of their newborn, and Lisbet is back in school sharing the news of her new little brother with all her friends.
