Hispanic Heritage Month – Dr. Jose M. Garcia Zaldivar

In the maternity unit at Jackson North Medical Center, I lead a team that ensures that newborns are safely delivered into the world. I can only describe it as remarkable – especially when I know it’s strengthening the community in which I live. The moment a newborn cries for the very first time, it shines a bright light on the future of Miami-Dade County.

Over the years, I’ve seen my Hispanic community grow and flourish like others, and like others turn to Jackson for our medical expertise, compassionate care, and selfless mission – something I am sincerely proud of. It has grown not just by the number of immigrants and refugees who arrive seeking to take part in the American dream, but also by families cementing their roots in South Florida and starting a second generation.

Every day I help my patients as much as I can. From communicating with them in Spanish and ensuring they understand the care being provided, to singing a classic ballad to ease tensions. It’s a privilege to deliver world-class care, help families start a new chapter, and play a role in expanding our Hispanic footprint.
