ADHD Symptoms in Children
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is becoming a big concern for parents in the U.S. While common, the neurodevelopmental disorder is affecting a growing number of children across the country. Those with ADHD typically experience the following types of symptoms:
Inattention
- Difficulty paying attention to details, listening, or following instructions.
- Easily distracted, forgetful, procrastinate, don’t finish homework or chores, and daydream.
Hyperactivity
- Unable to sit still, especially in calm or quiet settings.
- Constantly fidgeting, squirming, or tapping hands or feet.
- Excessive physical movement, such as running around or climbing, and trouble playing quietly.
Impulsivity
- Difficulty waiting their turn, acting without thinking, or interrupting conversations.
- Blurting out answers or intruding on others’ activities.
Other lesser-known signs of ADHD are frequent mood swings, trouble coping with stress, and having a hot temper.
