Comedian and “The Pitt” actor Moshe Kasher has opened up about his recent diagnosis of HPV-positive tonsil cancer, sharing how an unexpected discovery led to a life-changing health journey. While working on a film project, Kasher noticed an unusual lump on one of his tonsils. What seemed like a minor issue at first prompted further medical evaluation, ultimately revealing the cancer.

Following the diagnosis, Kasher underwent surgery to remove the tumor and affected tissue in his throat and neck. HPV-related tonsil cancers are often highly treatable, particularly when detected early, and many patients experience positive outcomes with the right treatment.

Common symptoms of HPV-related tonsil and throat cancers may include:

  • A sore throat that won’t go away
  • Difficulty or pain when swallowing
  • A lump in the neck
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Ongoing hoarseness
  • Ear pain
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Voice changes
  • Sensation that something is stuck in the throat

In some cases, an abnormal growth or visible lump on a tonsil may be one of the earliest warning signs.

Health experts recommend getting medical attention if these symptoms last longer than two to three weeks or continue to worsen. Although these symptoms are often linked to some minor conditions, seeing a doctor can help rule out more serious causes and ensure fast treatment, if needed.

By speaking publicly about his diagnosis, Kasher hopes to increase awareness about HPV-related cancers and encourage others to take unusual symptoms seriously. His story serves as an important reminder that early detection can play a significant role in successful treatment and recovery.
