Karamo Brown’s Plastic Surgery Complications Highlight Cosmetic Procedure Risks
By Kaia Bonner
Television personality Karamo Brown recently shared the details of his complications following cosmetic surgery. According to Brown, his procedure left him dealing with chronic pain and swelling for years, a discomfort that eventually left him needing corrective surgery.
While Brown’s experience involved a facial surgery, it’s a reminder that any cosmetic procedure can come with serious risks.
At Jackson’s emergency rooms and Ryder Trauma Center,, doctors and nurses constantly treat patients experiencing complications from cosmetic surgeries, including Brazilian Butt Lifts, or BBLs. While many of these procedures are performed safely, complications can occur, and in some cases, the complications can become life-threatening, especially if performed in unsafe settings or by unqualified providers.
Complications that may require emergency treatment can include severe infections, blood clots, poor wound healing, and in some cases, sepsis, a life-threatening response to infection.
Warning signs after cosmetic surgery may include:
- Shortness of breath
- Fever or chills
- Severe swelling
- Excessive bleeding
- Worsening pain
- Drainage from surgical wounds
As cosmetic procedures continue to grow in popularity, experts stress the importance of understanding the risks and choosing qualified, board-certified surgeons before undergoing these procedures. Cosmetic surgery may be elective, but the complications can be very real.
If something doesn’t seem right after a procedure, seeking medical attention early can make all the difference.
