The Miami HEAT organization has been visiting Holtz Children’s Hospital at Jackson Memorial Medical Center for more than 20 years. Each year, the HEAT teams up with presenting partner FedEx and other supporting partners to distribute toys, signed basketballs by players, and gifts to our youngest patients.

Burnie the mascot arrived with players Udonis Haslem, Bam Adebayo, Goran Dragic, Kelly Olynyk along with the new faces of the 2019 season including, shooting guards Daryl Macon, Kendrick Nunn, and power forwards, Chris Silva and Meyers Leonard.

“My goal was simply to spread holiday joy and happy spirts to these kids and families going through a hard time,” said Leonard. “We’ll keep thinking about them, and I am just thankful to be here.”

Holtz Children’s patients shared gratitude and laughs with the players who in return, were just as moved by the kindred spirits of children – many who have hospitalized for months and may not go home in time for the holidays.

“It was a great experience just because we’re cheering on kids who are going through a lot right now, and we’re here to give them some Christmas joy,” said Adebayo.

The HEAT has a long-standing relationship with Holtz Children’s. We look forward to hosting this organization for years to come.
