Spring is Right Around the Corner and It’s Time to Adjust Our Clocks for Daylight Saving Time

Daylight saving time is a small change that can cause a big disruption to our daily routines. Here are some tips to help you prepare:

  1. Get children ready ahead of time: It might take children longer to adjust their internal clocks to the sudden change in time. To overcome grogginess and potential sleep disruption, begin acclimating kids to a new bedtime routine a few days prior to the scheduled change.
  2. Remember to stick to healthy sleep habits: Adults should keep their nightly routines consistent while reinforcing positive actions to help improve sleep quality. Don’t consume caffeine before bed, limit the use of electronics at night, and avoid lights and sounds that cause sensory overload.
  3. Adjust your electronic and manual clocks: Check your electronics to ensure that an automatic time change is reflected. Common devices include cell phones, computers, tablets, and car displays. Don’t forget that manual clocks need to be changed by hand.

To help regulate your internal clock, soak up an extra hour of sunlight or take a brisk walk outside to boost energy levels. It can take several days for our bodies to fully adjust to the time change, but patience is key.
