What to Do if You’re Pregnant and Experience a Fall
When influencer Lele Pons fell during her gender reveal party, fans were left wondering what they should do if they find themselves in a similar situation.
For expectant mothers, a sudden fall can signal the need for immediate medical attention.
Why Falls Matter During Pregnancy
Pregnancy brings physical changes that can increase the risk of falling such as loose joints, a shifting center of gravity, and even dizziness caused by hormonal fluctuations. Depending on the stage of pregnancy, even a minor fall could impact the mother and baby.
If You Fall While Pregnant:
- Don’t Panic
Stay calm and take a moment to assess how you feel. If you have severe pain, bleeding, dizziness, or contractions, call 911 immediately. - Call Your Obstetrics Provider
Even if you feel okay, notify your provider. - Head to an Obstetrics Emergency Room (OB ER)
Unlike standard emergency rooms, OB ERs are equipped specifically for women who are pregnant or in the early post-partum stage.
The Role of OB ERs
While the OB ER functions as an extension of a hospital’s main emergency room, it’s staffed with experienced OB/GYNs and certified-nurse midwives 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They provide timely emergency care to pregnant patients, offer fetal monitoring, access to labor and delivery resources, and OB-trained nurses and physicians.
The team performs:
- Continuous fetal heart rate monitoring
- Ultrasounds to check placental health and amniotic fluid levels
- Cervical exams to assess for signs of preterm labor
It’s Better to Be Safe Than Sorry
Lele Pons’ fall is a reminder to always consult your provider, and don’t hesitate to go to an OB ER if you’re in an emergency situation.
When it comes to your pregnancy, peace of mind and prompt care are everything.
