About

Dr. Brian Grottkau is UHealth Jackson Children’s Care chief of pediatric orthopedics and surgical services at Holtz Children’s Hospital, and professor of orthopedics and Shriners Children’s endowed chair in pediatric orthopedics at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

He is an accomplished board-certified orthopedic surgeon and researcher specializing in pediatric orthopedic and adult spine disorders. Dr. Grottkau received his medical degree at Harvard Medical School, and completed an orthopedic surgery residency and fellowships in spine surgery and pediatric orthopedics at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston.

Dr. Grottkau’s clinical interests span a wide range, including scoliosis, anterior vertebral tethering and vertebral body tethering, pediatric spine surgery, pediatric orthopedics, congenital and acquired disorders of the musculoskeletal system, cerebral palsy, clubfoot, hip, knee, and leg disorders, neuromuscular disorders, and pediatric trauma and fractures. Through his extensive expertise and commitment to education, Dr. Grottkau continues to make significant contributions to the field of pediatric orthopedic surgery.


He co-developed a novel surgical treatment called anterior vertebral body tethering, a minimally invasive, motion-preserving therapy that treats idiopathic scoliosis and allows children to regain normal spinal function. Dr. Grottkau looks forward to continuing a strong partnership with Shriners Children’s Orthopedic Center at UHealth Jackson Children’s Care.
