Shailendra Upadhyay, MD, is the chief of pediatric cardiology at the Congenital Heart Center at Holtz Children's Hospital.

Dr. Upadhyay specializes in the care of children, teens, and adults born with congenital heart disease. Nationally recognized for his expertise in adult congenital heart disease (ACHD), he provides comprehensive, care for patients with complex congenital and heart rhythm disorders. Dr. Upadhyay’s particularly dedicated to ensuring seamless transition from pediatric to adult congenital care, supporting patients through every stage of life.

Along with ACHD, his clinical expertise includes cardiac electrophysiology (heart rhythm disorders), pulmonary hypertension (high blood pressure in the lung arteries), and the care of pregnant women with heart disease. He works closely with other specialists to help women with heart conditions have the safest pregnancy possible.

Dr. Upadhyay performs advanced electrophysiology procedures for children and adults with congenital heart disease, including catheter ablation for irregular heartbeats. He uses advanced three-dimensional heart-mapping technology to treat abnormal heart rhythms with catheter ablation. This allows many procedures to be performed with little or no X-ray exposure, reducing or eliminating radiation for patients.

He also implants and manages cardiac pacemakers and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators in children and young adults who need treatment for slow or life-threatening heart rhythms.

In addition to patient care, Dr. Upadhyay is active in clinical research focused on adult congenital heart disease and heart rhythm disorders. His work supports better long-term outcomes and quality of life for patients living with complex heart conditions.
