Construction Set To Begin on The Christine E. Lynn Rehabilitation Center For The Miami Project To Cure Paralysis at UHealth/Jackson Memorial Medical Center

Who:

Christine E. Lynn, philanthropist; Carlos A. Migoya, president and CEO, Jackson Health System; Keith Tribble, CEO of Jackson Health Foundation; Jackson Health System employees; Jackson Health Foundation supporters

What:

Construction will soon begin on one of Jackson Health System’s signature projects: The Christine E. Lynn Rehabilitation Center For The Miami Project To Cure Paralysis at UHealth/Jackson Memorial Medical Center.

To make way for the new, state-of-the-art building, demolition has started on the aged Institute and Institute Annex buildings on the west side of the Jackson Memorial campus.

On Friday, Jackson is offering employees and other supporters an opportunity to get in on the swing of things and be part of the demolition crew. They can pose for photos at the demolition site wearing construction gear and holding a sledgehammer, and those with the physical ability to safely participate will have an opportunity to swing a sledgehammer at one of the building’s remaining exterior walls. Participation fees of $1 to $10 per person will be donated to the Jackson Health Foundation, Jackson’s fundraising arm.

The Christine E. Lynn Rehabilitation Center, scheduled to open in 2020, will be modeled after some of the nation’s leading rehabilitation centers and will encompass comprehensive inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services. The 100-bed, private-room facility will offer an exemplary inpatient experience for those dealing with some of the most challenging injuries. It will also unite clinical care and research done with the University of Miami for those dealing with life-altering spinal cord and brain injuries, as well as the powerful development and community support of The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis.

With a cost of nearly $174 million, the building will be funded through the general obligation bond overwhelmingly supported by Miami-Dade voters in 2013 to upgrade Jackson’s infrastructure and build new facilities, capital contributions, and a generous donation by philanthropist Christine E. Lynn, who will be on hand for the demolition event Friday.
