All Aboard Jackson Cruise Line’s World of Thanks Tour: Jackson Health System Celebrates Hospital Week

Frontline Healthcare Workers Set to Begin their Week to a Hero’s Salute

More than 90 years ago, the American Hospital Association began celebrating National Hospital Week as a way to recognize dedicated healthcare professionals and highlight our country’s hospital systems. This year’s theme at Jackson Health System is “All Aboard Jackson Cruise Line’s World of Thanks Tour.”

After a challenging year battling the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, the observance represents a deeper appreciation for healthcare workers as they continue their sacrifices on the frontlines. Many of them have not been able to take time off to be with their loved ones, so Jackson is providing staff with an uplifting theme to relieve stress and give them hope that better days are on the horizon.

To show our gratitude to our hospital staff, Jackson has a series of experiences planned throughout the week with prizes donated to the Jackson Health Foundation from our community partners. These experiences include the following:

  • Monday, May 10 (6 to 8 a.m.): Staff will be greeted with a Hero’s Welcome Aboard salute by their leadership teams as they’re coming into their work locations.
  • Wednesday, May 12 (10 a.m.): Wynwood muralist Claudia La Bianca will unveil her latest sculpture, Superhero Nurse, which is being donated to Jackson Memorial Hospital and will be permanently displayed inside the hospital
  • Friday, May 14 (Noon to 2 p.m. via Zoom): Staff can tune in to watch a live DJ party called the “Jackson Cruise Line Virtual Gratitude Pool Deck Party.”

During 2020, Wynwood muralist Claudia La Bianca honored healthcare workers with a 104-foot mural that she painted on the walls of a garage at Jackson Memorial. This year, she is designing a 13-foot sculpture that is another symbol of her commitment to honor healthcare workers as the global impact of the virus continues. During an event on May 12, the artist will unveil the finished product to hospital employees on the second floor of the Diagnostic Treatment Center at Jackson Memorial.

The virtual celebrations will continue internally throughout the week across Jackson hospitals, urgent care centers, clinics, and long-term care centers. Staff will also have access to a Spotify playlist with select “island music”, and will have an opportunity to win prizes thanks to donations to the Jackson Health Foundation by our community partners. Prizes include tickets to the South Beach Wine and Food Festival, MIami Marlins baseball tickets, Hawks Cay Resort hotel stays, a family bicycle set from Mack Cycle, an autographed Dwyane Wade jersey and photo, a Jo Malone gift set, and more!
