Jackson Health System Launches COVID Vaccination Initiative with Colleges and Universities in Miami-Dade County

What:

Over the last four months, Jackson Health System has made huge strides in vaccinating members of our community. Jackson has vaccinated more than 160,000 people at three vaccination sites and administered nearly 289,000 total Pfizer shots.

Jackson is now proud to launch a COVID-19 vaccination initiative with colleges and universities in Miami-Dade County, which include Barry University, Florida International University, Florida Memorial University, Miami Dade College and University of Miami. Through this partnership, students who are Florida residents, as well as out-of-state and international students, will be allowed to sign up for a COVID vaccine appointment via our online portal.

Students who are non-Florida residents will be required to show a valid student ID, along with a driver’s license or passport. Students will be able to sign up for an appointment via our online portal at JacksonHealth.org and choose an appointment at one of our three locations: Christine E. Lynn Rehabilitation Center, Jackson South Medical Center, or North Dade Health Center.

During a press event, some students from these colleges will receive the COVID-19 vaccine, and Jackson leadership will be joined by representatives from these higher education institutions to speak to media about the importance of vaccinating this demographic.

Since beginning its public vaccination program in January, Jackson has forged innovative partnerships with houses of worship, non-profits, community groups, Miami-Dade schools, fire departments, and law enforcement agencies to help get their members vaccinated, with a focus on reaching people in historically underserved communities. Those efforts have been hugely successful, with more than 50,000 people vaccinated through this outreach effort.
