Holtz Children’s Hospital Hosts First Prom for Patients Since COVID-19

What:

The annual Holtz Children’s Hospital Prom is back for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, patients will enjoy a “Willy Wonka” themed event, organized by People In Crisis United, Miami Country Day School, and Kim Juanico, RN, BSN, CHPPN, pediatric palliative care nurse coordinator at Holtz Children’s. Kim is the founder of People In Crisis United, a non-profit organization that is dedicated to improving the quality of life for patients and their families at our children’s hospital.

In a community effort, donations of clothes, shoes, accessories, jewelry, and more were collected and housed at the Bargain Box. Patients were invited to “shop” for their prom outfits at no cost to them, giving them the full experience of prepping for a special night.

Patients will be given the opportunity to have their hair and make-up done before the event thanks to local beauticians and estheticians who are donating their time and talents. Each patient will experience everything a normal high school prom has to offer from dancing, to food, to photos and more.
