“Under The Sea” organized by local high school student and Holtz Children’s palliative care nurse

Who:

Holtz Children’s Hospital patients and their guests; prom organizers Isabella Allen and Kim Juanico; student volunteers from Miami Country Day School; doctors, nurses, and other staff from Holtz Children’s

What:

Teenage patients from Holtz Children’s Hospital at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center will enjoy a break from being compassionately examined, poked, and prodded during the “Under The Sea” Prom Saturday night.

The sixth annual event at Holtz Children’s is being organized by Isabella Allen, a senior at Miami Country Day School, and Kim Juanico, RN, BSN, CHPPN, pediatric palliative care nurse coordinator at Holtz Children’s. Kim is the founder of People In Crisis United, a non-profit organization that is dedicated to improving the quality of life for patients and their families at our children’s hospital.

Teen girls and boys were invited to choose their prom attire from hundreds of dresses, suits, shoes, and accessories donated by Jackson Health System employees. Stylists from Crowns for Charity and other volunteers, as well as Miss Florida USA Nicolette Jennings and Miss Florida Teen USA Katia Gerry, will offer the girls the opportunity to have their hair and makeup professionally done at Jackson Memorial Hospital before the prom.

Each young patient and their guest will experience everything a normal high school prom has to offer – dancing, food, photos, and more.

Those who will attend the prom have suffered from varying medical conditions, including cancer, neurological disorders, traumas, and transplants, and some are terminally ill.

When:

7 to 10 p.m., Saturday, April 6

Girls will have their hair and makeup done at Jackson Memorial from 5 to 7 p.m.

Where:

Jackson Memorial Hospital
Clark Diagnostic Treatment Center, room 270
Corner of Northwest 12th Avenue and 19th Street
Miami, FL 33136
