Holtz Children’s Hospital Partners with SebastianStrong Foundation and Apocalypse BBQ to Donate Thanksgiving Meals for Patients and Families
What:
Holtz Children’s Hospital has collaborated with the SebastianStrong Foundation, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Alex’s Place, and Apocalypse BBQ, a local barbeque restaurant founded by Miami native Jeffrey Budnechky, to donate more than 200 meals for patients and families at the hematology and oncology floors at Holtz Children’s and Alex’s Place.
SebastianStrong is a local nonprofit founded by Oscar and Rose Ortiz in memory of their 16-year-old son and former Holtz Children’s patient, Sebastian Nicolas Ortiz, who passed away on December 29, 2016, after being diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare soft tissue cancer. Throughout their ongoing partnership with Holtz Children’s, the nonprofit has donated hundreds of meals to families on the hematology and oncology floors and have had an impact of over $6 million in research over the past seven years. The SebastianStrong Foundation remains committed to honoring Sebastian’s legacy by supporting efforts to develop less toxic, more targeted treatment options for future patients and families battling the disease.
Join Holtz Children’s, the SebastianStrong Foundation, and Apocalypse BBQ as we celebrate Thanksgiving with patients and their loved ones.
