Jackson Health System Earns Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Top Ranking in 2024

Jackson is recognized internationally for Stage 7 achievement, the highest stage on the maturity model

MIAMI, FL – Jackson Health System has attained HIMSS Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model Stage 7 Validation, an assessment designed to measure clinical outcomes, patient engagement, and clinician use of electronic medical record technology to strengthen organizational performance and health outcomes. Stage 7 is the highest stage an organization can achieve.

“At Jackson, we pride ourselves on delivering the best, most comprehensive medical care to our patients – and we’re able to achieve that because our expert caregivers are equipped with the most advanced technology to support the work they do,” said Carlos A. Migoya, Jackson’s president and CEO. “We’re incredibly proud to once again receive the HIMSS Stage 7 certification, which underscores our commitment to leveraging the latest technology solutions to enhance patient care, improve efficiencies in how we operate, and ensure business continuity.”

During the two-day validation process, HIMSS recognized the health system’s outstanding work by reviewing several case studies, organizational data usage, and the work performed by Jackson’s multi-disciplinary team. The Stage 7 Validation measures the integration of data, the system’s use of technology for receiving alerts and reminders to aid self-managed care, and the implementation of automated tools for measuring patient outcomes.

These innovations include:

  • Angel eyes, a camera system that allows families to stay connected with their newborn babies in Holtz Children’s Hospital’s NICU. With 50 bedside cameras, families can securely view their babies 24/7 via a real-time video stream application.
  • Automated medical record transfers, a collaborative initiative between Jackson and various community health centers that matches a patient’s clinical documentation to the relevant medical group whenever a shared patient receives care at a Jackson facility.
  • Get Well, integrated into televisions across patient rooms at Jackson, offers access to essential health information, including videos on various health topics, patient medication details, a patient portal, an electronic whiteboard displaying the patient’s medical team information, goals, tasks, entertainment options, and more.
  • Patient safety indicator tracker, which monitors post-surgical clinical documents using specific triggers. By using Overwatch, Jackson’s integrated data solutions platform, when a potential patient safety indicator is detected, real-time alerts are sent to Jackson’s quality and risk teams for review.

“This global certification is a testament to the innovative thinking and hard work of our entire team at Jackson, and our shared focus on excellence in healthcare information technology,” said Michael Garcia, Jackson’s chief information officer. “Through artificial intelligence, data, and cutting-edge technology, we’re pioneering new solutions to enhance the delivery of high-quality health care for our patients and their families.”
