Jackson Health System Launches Online Birthing Plan Tool

Expectant Parents Can Create Custom Labor and Delivery Plans to Prepare for Birth

Miami, FL – (April 6, 2023) – Jackson Health System has launched an online birthing plan tool that allows expectant parents to specify their labor and delivery preferences with care teams in any of Jackson’s four maternity centers. The tool lets users indicate whether they have selected a provider and hospital for their delivery, who they prefer to accompany them during the birthing experience, if they have secured a pediatrician for their newborn, and much more.

In an effort to honor expectant parents’ birthing preferences, the plan poses questions to indicate whether they would like a doula present and what, if any, medication they would like during their labor and delivery. Users can also list how they would like their care team to proceed if labor is not progressing; giving expectant parents the ability to move forward with their intended plans as long as it’s medically safe for both mom and baby.

“Our comprehensive obstetrics and gynecology programs aim to accommodate all birthing preferences that expectant parents might have,” said Joanne Ruggiero, senior vice president and chief executive officer of Holtz Children’s Hospital and The Women’s Hospital at Jackson Memorial. “Having birthing options that are as individualized as our patients is essential for ensuring safe deliveries that honor the parents’ wishes.”

From selecting preferences during the laboring process, like aromatherapy and freedom of movement, to ensuring all babies are placed skin-to-skin immediately after birth, the plan will help cover the full spectrum of labor and delivery care, making the process that much more comfortable for soon-to-be parents.
