National Survey Recognizes All of Jackson’s Hospitals

Miami, FL –The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation named all six Jackson Health System hospitals “Leaders in LGBTQ Healthcare Equality” for the seventh year.

Through its annual Healthcare Equality Index (HEI), HRC evaluated Jackson Memorial Hospital, Jackson North Medical Center, Jackson South Medical Center, Jackson Rehabilitation Hospital, Jackson Behavioral Health Hospital, and Holtz Children’s Hospital/The Women’s Hospital at Jackson Memorial, with all six earning top marks for their policies and practices related to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) patients and their families, visitors and employees.

“For the last century, Jackson has been committed to providing safe, quality care to everyone in our community – and we do so by treating everyone equally,” said Carlos A. Migoya, president and CEO of Jackson Health System. “To be continually considered a leader in advancing care equality to LGBTQ patients and their families is something that we take great pride in.”

A total of 626 healthcare facilities nationwide were evaluated based on the following: non-discrimination & staff training, LGBTQ patient services & support, employee benefits & policies, and LGBTQ patient & community engagement.

Jackson’s six hospitals are among a select group of 418 healthcare facilities and systems this year nationwide to earn a top score of 100 and be named leaders in LGBTQ Healthcare Equality. Jackson hospitals have received this distinction seven times since 2011.

Only four other medical organizations and hospitals in South Florida – University of Miami Hospital, VA Miami Healthcare System, VA West Palm Beach Medical Center, and Cleveland Clinic Florida – were included on the 2018 list of leaders. A total of 16 facilities in Florida, six of which belong to Jackson Health System, earned the recognition.

Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation is the educational arm of the country’s largest LGBTQ civil rights organization. For more information about the Healthcare Equality Index 2018, or to download a free copy of the report, visit www.hrc.org/hei.
