Miami, FL – Holtz Children’s Hospital at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center is proud to be the title sponsor of the 2012 Caroling Competition for Miami-Dade and Broward middle and high school choirs, held annually at the 550 Biltmore Way building in Coral Gables.
The competition, which begins today, Wednesday, November 28, runs nightly through Sunday, December 2. Different schools perform every half hour each evening from 7 to 10 p.m. On December 2, the performances will be from 3 to 6 p.m. The concerts are free and open to the public.
This year, the competition welcomes 30 public, private and parochial schools – all competing for $20,000 cash awards. Prizes are awarded in the Junior and Senior Division for small ensembles, full choirs and show choirs.
The competition is made possible through the support of 25 local foundations, municipal
organizations, corporations and local businesses, and with the support of the City of Coral Gables
Cultural Development Board and Miami-Dade County’s Department of Cultural Affairs.
In addition to Holtz Children’s Hospital, other sponsors helping to celebrate the 26th Anniversary of this event include: Mercedes Benz-Coral Gables, Finser Corp., Cartier International, Publix Supermarkets, Rotary Club of Coral Gables, Waste Management, Inc., and several other companies located throughout Miami-Dade County. In the spirit of the season, Yamaha Music Center provides the red piano for the school’s accompanists.
The panel of judges for this year’s competition includes: Kevin Rutledge, director of the Miami Boy’s Choir; Adele de los Santos, founder of the Magnet Music Program for Miami-Dade County Public Schools; Charles Vitale, Coreen Duffy, Judie Berger, Yvonne Barclay, Teresita Wessels and Tony Arroyo.
The winners of the 2012 Caroling Competition will return for a short program to accept their awards at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 4.
