JACKSON HEALTH SYSTEM LAUNCHES THE RENEWAL OF PATIENT CARE AT DR. RAFAEL A. PEÑALVER CLINIC

Jackson will once again provide healthcare services at the primary care clinic in Little Havana

Miami, Fla. – As it continues to carry out its mission and expansion of primary care to residents of Miami-Dade County, Jackson Health System resumed operation of the Dr. Rafael A. Peñalver Clinic on Monday, March 4, 2013. The clinic’s board of directors asked Jackson to return to the clinic after experimenting with a private operator; the return of Jackson’s medical staff was approved via a tri-party agreement that includes Jackson and the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County.

“Primary care is at the heart of Jackson’s community mission, and we are proud to begin a new chapter at Dr. Rafael A. Peñalver Clinic,” said Carlos A. Migoya, president & CEO of Jackson Health System. “We have high expectations for the future of the clinic’s patient care, customer service and management operations.”

“The Department welcomes back Jackson Health System as the primary care provider at the
Dr. Rafael A. Peñalver Clinic,” stated Lillian Rivera, administrator of Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County. “Jackson has steadfastly served the underserved and uninsured in Miami-Dade County and has been a valuable partner in delivering excellent health care to the people in Miami-Dade County.”

“We are certain that we can add value to our community by partnering with Jackson Health System as a medical provider of Dr. Rafael A. Peñalver Clinic,” said Boris Alvarez, executive director of Dr. Rafael A. Peñalver Clinic.

The Dr. Rafael A. Peñalver Clinic has been a model for neighborhood health for 17 years. The clinic, located at 971 N.W. 2nd Street in Little Havana, provides comprehensive primary care services such as adult medicine and pediatrics. The clinic will begin offering obstetrics gynecology services in the fall of 2013.  The clinic also facilitates referrals to Jackson Memorial Hospital for specialized services.
