Miami, FL – Irene Lipof, Ed.D., was sworn in as a member of the Public Health Trust Financial Recovery Board (FRB), during its televised meeting Monday, April 29. Dr. Lipof is currently an adjunct professor of social science for Miami Dade College, following a distinguished 39-year career at the college, where she also served as a dean. She was appointed to fill the FRB seat left vacant by the resignation of Joaquin del Cueto in February 2013.
No stranger to community and civic involvement, Dr. Lipof is a political organizer for United Faculty of Miami Dade College. She has held leadership positions serving on the board of directors of the Miami-Dade County Juvenile Justice Detention Center; the Third District Court of Appeals Judicial Nominating Commission; the Florida Association of Community Colleges; the local chapter of the National Women’s Political Caucus and the Citizens’ Coalition for Public Schools, among numerous others.
Raised in Miami, Dr. Lipof taught in public schools here and in California before becoming a professor of social science at Miami Dade College. She earned a doctorate in education from Florida Atlantic University.
Dr. Lipof is the newest member of the FRB, a seven-member board created by the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners, as an independent volunteer governing body concerned with the county’s most vital integrated healthcare resource, Jackson Health System. The board sets policies that assure Jackson Health System is responsive to community needs.
