JACKSON HEALTH SYSTEM HONORS ITS NURSES

Miami, FL – Ten Jackson nurses were honored with awards during a National Nurse Week celebration held at Jackson Memorial Hospital this week. Licensed practical nurses (LPN), registered nurses (RN) and an advanced practice nurse (APN) from across Jackson Health System were selected by their colleagues as nurses who are examples of Jackson’s standards of excellence. Don Steigman, chief operating officer of the system, joined the respective chief nursing officers in presenting the awards.

The RN of the Year Award was presented to the registered nurse who best exemplifies selfless dedication, compassion and nursing pride, while also demonstrating clinical expertise, throughout the years. The winners were:

• Idalmys Fernandez, R.N., B.S.N., Jackson North Medical Center
• Frances Jara, R.N., Ambulatory Care Centers/Primary Care Centers
• Terronne Freiberg, M.S.N., A.R.N.P, Jackson Behavioral Health Hospital/Corrections Health Services
• Erwin Sison, R.N., Jackson South Community Hospital
• Alexandria Stewart-Scurry, R.N., M.B.A.-H.C.M., Holtz Children’s Hospital/Jackson Women’s Hospital Center

 The LPN of the Year Award was presented to the licensed practical nurses who work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team; demonstrate clinical expertise; and promote competent, compassionate and professional nursing care. The winners were:

• Beverly Matthews, L.P.N., Ambulatory Care Centers/Primary Care Centers
• Eugenia Barberena, L.P.N., Jackson Behavioral Health Hospital
• Sharon Johnson, L.P.N., Corrections Health Services

The APN of the Year Award was presented to the advanced practice nurse who exemplifies Jackson’s Professional Practice Model and nursing vision by demonstrating clinical expertise in a selected specialty; participating in the education of nursing staff, medical residents and peers; and focusing on continuing professional development. The winner was:
