LATIN AMERICAN DIGNITARIES VISIT JACKSON MEMORIAL HOSPITAL

JMH Visit Part of Inter-American Conference of Mayors

JMH Visit Part of Inter-American Conference of MayorsMiami, FL – More than 40 mayors and other public officials from Latin America visited Jackson Memorial Hospital on June 20 to learn about Jackson Health System’s community outreach programs. The group of dignitaries is in Miami for the Inter-American Conference of Mayors and Jackson was just one of many stops for them.

During the meeting at Jackson, the group listened to presentations about the services offered throughout the health system. Representatives from various Jackson departments, including the UM/JM Burn Center, the Roxcy Bolton Rape Treatment Center, Miami-Dade Injury Prevention Coalition, South Florida AIDS Network, Cuban and Haitian Refugee Program, and the Florida Poison Information Center, met with the leaders and answered questions.

The intention of the visit to Jackson was for the leaders to learn about different ideas and programs, and then develop and implement them in their own countries.

The participants were welcomed by Alex Contreras, senior vice president and chief administrative officer of Jackson Memorial Hospital; Maggie Perez, director of governmental relations; Olga Quintana, R.N., program manager of Ryder Trauma Center; and Nelson Gonzalez, associate administrator of finance for Jackson Health System.

“We always welcome outside groups to come to Jackson and learn about the services we provide throughout our community,” said Marvin Cordero, community outreach liaison for Jackson Health System. “As one of the largest health systems in the United States, Jackson is a leader in education and development and we pride ourselves on sharing our knowledge.”
