BRAZILIAN OLYMPIC ATHLETE LAÍS SOUZA THANKS HER FANS FOR THEIR SUPPORT

Laís Souza, a Brazilian Olympic gymnast-turned-skier who suffered a spinal cord injury in January, completed her first week of treatment at Jackson Rehabilitation Hospital in Miami.

On Wednesday, Laís expressed her gratitude for the support she has been receiving from people all over the world.

“First and foremost, I would like to thank everyone for their support, tenderness and prayers. I am feeling better now and ready to face the challenges that will come my way,” Laís said. “Continue to support me, kisses.”

Laís, 25, are focusing on her treatment and recovery. She follows a daily routine of motor, respiratory and occupational physical therapy. She is also in the process of adapting to an electric wheelchair.

At Jackson, Laís is being cared for by an outstanding medical team, led by world-renowned University of Miami/Jackson neurosurgeon Dr. Barth Green and UM/Jackson trauma surgeon Dr. Antonio Marttos, Jr., who is also a physician for Team Brazil.

Brazilian Olympic Committee has received many interview requests; however, at this time Laís is asking for the media to be patient, as she is currently focused on her rehabilitation.

Current photos of Laís are up on Facebook under Jackson Health System or on Twitter at @jacksonhealth.
